Somehow I missed the memo…

If you know me a little, you know I usually don’t speak very favorably of Apple products. Not that there is anything wrong with Apple, they are great innovators. I just don’t see myself buying a 1200 laptop that Dell (essentially) sells for 500. As a matter of fact I might buy a Dell Mini, just to make it a Hackintosh. I also can’t stand the fanboy-ism that Apple owners display. I mean, what is so cool about cut and paste? (the latest and greatest addition to Apple’s iPhone OS) I don’t get it! Apple finally introduced MMS to the iPhone, big whoop! They needed a version three, just to do that?

What I didn’t realize though, is that working for Apple makes you forget your sense of style? It seems, judging by the photos on Apple’s web site that the frumpier you look the better you are capable of doing your job as a genius. Forgot to brush your hair? You shall be rewarded 10 extra IQ points. Forgot to cut it? 20 points! Do I see wrinkles in your t-shirt (yes I said t-shirt, something I couldn’t show up for work in)? Let me give you 30 points. You’ll make it to employee of the month in no time!

Ubercool is when you manage to wear your tee ON TOP of your button down shirt, just don’t iron either one, that would ruin the effect. Call me old fashioned, but I just don’t feel comfortable shelling out any kind of money to a person that a) looks like he or she just got out of bed, or b) looks like the guy that begs you for money when you walk back to your car after having been partying (you, not the guy) till two AM (in which case you will yourself probably look like an Apple employee).

I always thought that, to work at Apple, you had to wear a black turtle-neck — by the way how is Steve doing? — another fashion no-no, but I guess I missed the memo. If Apple was fashion (and for all purposes they seem to be) Dork is the new Calvin Klein. Does anyone else feel like their money is going straight to the Mickey Mouse Club?

DORKS

The scary part, I just realized, is that the picture above looks like it actually belongs on this blog! Not only does it match the color scheme, it was sized to a T (yes pun intended). I guess I was cool long before Apple, and I didn’t even know it! Have you hugged your dork today?
